Biography

Elias M. Zuckerman has been with the firm’s tax department since 1984 and has been head of the tax department since 1988.

He has been actively involved with members of the firm’s corporate and real estate departments in advising real estate investors, developers, syndicators, and other professionals regarding tax issues arising in connection with the formation of partnerships and limited liability companies and the acquisition, operation, and disposition of properties. He has often assisted members of the firm in drafting or interpreting the limited partnership or limited liability company agreements governing these entities.

A significant part of Elias’ tax practice involves advising clients regarding acquisitions and dispositions of businesses -- whether operated by corporations, partnerships, or limited liability companies. In addition, he has assisted many clients in structuring new business ventures and developing the compensation and option plans for the employees of these ventures.

Elias has also been involved in a wide range of other tax matters in his many years of tax practice. He has successfully represented taxpayers before the Appeals Office of the Internal Revenue Service and the New York State and City tax departments. In addition, in recent years, he has worked closely with members of the firm’s litigation department in connection with the litigation of several substantial cases in the United States Tax Court and a case in United States District Court.

He also was a co-author of ten editions of the "Guide to Income Tax" published by Consumer Reports Books between 1987 and 1997. Over ten years, more than 1,250,000 copies of this guide were sold. Among the acclaim earned by this annual publication was its recognition by USA Today in 1989 as “the best of the bunch” of general tax guides.

Elias was also co-author of the revised edition of "How to Plan for a Secure Retirement", published by Consumer Reports Books. More than 150,000 copies of the original and revised editions of this book were sold.
